In 2002 I was fortunate to co-host a benefit for RAINN that included Rebekah Del Rio as a performer. Rebekah is probably best known for her rendition of “Llorando” in the David Lynch masterpiece Mulholland Drive, but she performed some other songs including the one above, “No Stars,” which she penned with Lynch. It’s always stuck with me and I’m glad that a version of this song was taped.

Sadly, in rediscovering this song years later, I learned that Rebekah lost her son to cancer in 2009, and all I could think of was how she lived for him and talked about him with such joy while we were putting together the benefit. It breaks my heart to think of a parent losing their child.

She turned the pain of losing her son into something positive and started a Kickstarter page to fund a new album entitled “LOVE HURTS - LOVE HEALS,” which just passed its goal today and will be released later this year on 11/11/11.
